Bernia - Spotlight Interview - elinor peace bailey
"A walking advertisement for fun" is how someone once described elinor peace bailey. With her bright clothing, outgoing nature, and lively sense of humor, it is obvious that elinor is not your "typical" sewing teacher. A globe trotting teacher of dollmaking who designs fabric and exercises her talent as a graphic artist on any stray surface she can find, elinor travels about 200 days a year, teaching and sharing her unique designs for dolls, toys, other stuffed creations.

Masked Dolls by elinor peace bailey While her background as a painter adds an extra element to her sewing and designing, it's her sense of humor that makes her classes the most fun her students ever had. Her love for the people she teaches sifts through her dolls, giving them each a bit of comedic relief, making them excellent examples of her trade.

elinor's latest effort is the creation of an embroidery design card for the BERNINA® artista and BERNETTE® Deco embroidery machines. Giggles, Gags and Faces includes designs for doll faces, animals, and offbeat borders of clapping hands and colorful shoes. The card is accompanied by a 32 page booklet which includes patterns and instructions for making dolls, pins, purses, and vest.

elinor appeared as a guest teacher at BERNINA® University '99 in Long Beach, CA. BERNINA® dealers and their employees enjoyed her classes and received a sneak peek at the new design card and her quirky, entertaining, and fun projects.

She writes and illustrates a quarterly newsletter for APWPWD, the Association For People Who Play With Dolls. Founded by elinor, this group of doll aficionados make dolls of all types. For information on the association and elinor's pattern line and possible teaching dates, contact her at 1779 East Ave., Hayward, CA 94541.

A graduate of Brigham Young University, elinor married Gary L. Bailey and together they have parented ten children. Now that's pretty serious.
